Today I would like to introduce you to Petal Couture.  It is a one stop answer to all of your floral needs and Ember McCune is the driving force behind all things floral.  I have had the pleasure of working very closely with her and I have always been blown away by her creations.

Shortly after that she got married and  5 of her close friends  got married and they wanted her to do their flowers. Then family and other friends started to ask her to do their flowers and that is how it all started. She has been doing wedding flowers for 11 years and loves it!

Congratulations!  You are now officially engaged! Your family and friends are excited about it and then the  questions start…When’s the date ?  Where are you getting married? How many guests?  Are you having it at the country club?  How about peach and cream for your colors?

You have been engaged for about five minutes and they want the detailed timeline and the complete bridal party! STOP! Before you have a complete and total breakdown.  Follow these important instructions:

1. Enjoy the excitement of being engaged! It is hopefully your one and only engagement, so take it all in and tell everyone you know!

2. Sit down and figure out a budget.  If your parents are helping financially , meet with them and determine how much they are able to contribute.  This will give you a good place to start.

3. Once you have established a budget, put together your guest list.  This is by far the most stressful part of the planning process, so getting it out of the way before you do anything else really makes the planning process go smooth. In addition it will help you narrow down venues that will accommodate your guest list.

4. Now the fun begins! Look online and in bridal magazines to get an idea of the theme of the day. Purchase a binder and plastic sleeves and cut and print everything you like.  It will allow you to organize your ideas.  Have tabs for dresses, favors, decor, flowers, tuxedos, reception ideas, food…etc

5. Research and book a wedding planner! No matter what size your budget, you can benefit from enlisting a planner.  In addition to getting you incredible deals with your vendors, they can help you avoid costly mistakes that can occur when you plan on your own. They can assist you in creating your theme, logistics and dealing with the emotions and stress that come from wedding planning.  An added bonus is that they are a unbiased opinion that can help you with important decisions.

Congratulations to the newly engaged couples over the holidays!  In honor of all the couples that will now be planning weddings for the upcoming year, I bring my first inspiration of the year.  This wedding is simple, elegant and chic, perfect for a couple that is looking for a wedding that is modern and not quite traditional.

Make it Simple and Chic!

So the table was a DIY project that anyone can for themselves with a little time and creativity.

Items needed for Ornament Topiary:

• Hot Glue Gun
• Christmas Ornaments (any color)
  • Approximately 50 in varying sizes (small, medium and large)
  • Remove hook holders from ornaments
  • 9 in Styrofoam ball (Hobby Lobby, Michaels)
  • 12 inch wooden dowels
  • Glitter Spray Paint (color to match ornaments)
  • Square foam block
  • Container to hold block
  • Beaded Christmas Garland
  • Tablecloth (should coordinate with ornaments)

Instructions:

1. Sort the ornaments by size for easy access
2. Take the Styrofoam ball and dowel, and push dowel into the ball to desired depth, remove dowel and fill in with hot glue then re-insert to make sure it is secure.
3. Once dowel is secured, go outside or in your garage and cover Styrofoam ball and dowel if desired with glitter spray paint.  This will cover any void in the ornament placement. Allow paint to dry before moving to the next step
4. Now that your paint has dried you are ready to start attaching ornaments to the ball.  Before attaching the ornaments with hot glue I like to map out how they will be placed so there are no surprises once they are glued(they are easily removed, but you don’t want to have to start over) You can use your own creativity to decide how you would like them to look on the ball.  Customize it to your liking
5. Once you have decided on design, use the hot glue gun to adhere the ornaments to the ball.
6. Now that you have finished putting the topiary together, you must attach the lower end of the dowel to the square Styrofoam base.  You may have to cut it depending on the container you decide to use.  In addition you may have to use a filler to stabilize the topiary in the base.  Once stabilized then you can add beaded garland or whatever you like to finish the design.

Make it a Simple and Chic Christmas!

So I am finally getting around to creating our Christmas table for our home.  For those of you who know me, this is quite the production.  Every year I do something different with a little twist.  I believe that an amazing table can set the tone for the mood of the room, even at your home.  Last month I came across these amazing candleholders and they will provide the perfect amount of drama to create the perfect effect.

Now before I unveil the finished product, here are a few suggestions for those of you who would like to create a beautiful Christmas table.

5.  Basic White Linen-  A basic white tablecloth can go a long way, it creates an elegant vibe and it is easy to clean if you spill anything on it. It also provides a blank canvas for your table design.

4.  Candles-  They are the perfect go to, to create a festive Christmas vibe for the table and who doesn’t love the effect of a candlelit table.

3. Christmas Cards-  I love to get Christmas cards from friends and family and I have saved a few of my favorites over the years.  You can create a beautiful runner down the center of your table that is a reminder of the love of your friends and family.

*Bonus!  If you have children, you can have them create their own Christmas cards to use as the runner as well.

2. Pinecones-  During this time of year you see the cinnamon scented pinecones in the stores, but if you have a neighbor or know someone with a pine tree you can create that effect “diy” style.  You can create a runner for your table with a bed of pine needles and pinecones.  It is a rustic look that your guests will love!

1. Ornaments-  I know that you hang ornaments from your tree, but you can use them as a decoration for your table.  A unique way is to go to your local craft store and get the clear ornaments you can fill.  You can use these ornaments to create a theme for your table.  For example, you can fill them with peppermints and create a red and white wonderland and accent with red and white ornaments.  The possibilities are endless!

Norma Carter leads the womens group at City Temple Seventh-Day Adventist Church and to culminate the end of their WOW Women’s Week, she planned a Tea and Hat Show to benefit victims of domestic violence.

Norma orgranized the women of the church to act as hostesses of their table.  They were responsible for  the table design, food and inviting their friends to sit at their table.  I was honored to have the opportunity to design two of the tables at the event.  It was an experience to see all of the different creative elements that came together for each table.  Below is a sampling of some of the tables from the event.

In additon, Norma arranged for  a local hat designer to come and show off some of her beautiful creations. A few of the ladies were models for the afternoon.   The custom made hats were indeed statement pieces.  It was a lovely afternoon, I was glad to be a part of the event.  Norma did an amazing job of organizing and I look forward to taking part again next year.

When the guests entered the mocktail hour they were greeted with their choice of appetizer along with an ice cream sundae bar.  It was July in Texas so this was the hit of the party, a nice cool dessert on a warm afternoon.  When mocktail hour was finished the pipe and drape that surrounded the venue was pulled back to reveal the spectacular view of the racetrack along with the amazing arrangements that Lina chose for her tables.

The room was awash with shades of pink as the guests were guided to their tables. The waitstaff in their crisp uniforms were ready to assist at thier beck and call. Once the guests were seated it was time for the introductions to begin.  The bridal party was eager to get the party started as the entered the reception.  The bride and groom were the last to enter and it as evident that the Vintage girl finally got her man!

They made their way to the platform that they shared with an amazing 4-tiered cake that was a vision in shades of pink

After the cake was cut, there was a blessing on the food and the servers came out en masse to feed the over 450 guests they were hosting at their amazing reception.

While the guests were eating the bridal party snuck away for a quick outfit change to re-enter the reception and get the party started right!

Their traditional outfits were custom made and fit each of the ladies beautifully, as they made their entrance back into the reception, all eyes were on the ladies.

Not to be outdone by her bridesmaids the bride and groom make a stunning entrance as well

And that is when the party started and went well into the night!

We left off with our beautiful bride walking down the aisle to meet her leading man.  Once they met, it was obvious that they were very much in love and extremely happy that their wedding day had arrived.

Their heartfelt ceremony was officiated by eight ministers that represented various parts of each of their lives.  It was a personal demonstration of their love and the love of their friends and family.

As they signed the register (marriage license), they were serenaded by the groomsmen.  It seemed as though all of the 28 members of their wedding party were extremely talented and lent their talents to the wedding day.  Now that we have journeyed through the wedding ceremony…It is time to PARTY!!!
